When I was a child, my sister and I wrote a song called "Elephants are the Most Dangerous Animals in the World." I haven't topped it yet but I keep trying.

ABOUT MIRANDA

After a decade-long career in Advertising, songwriting may seem like a departure for Miranda Hardy, but to those who know her best, she’s just watering her roots. Miranda is Jack Hardy’s youngest daughter, and spent years traveling and touring alongside him everywhere from NYC clubs to small pubs in Ireland. You can hear her singing harmony and playing fiddle throughout the late Hardy's final album, Rye Grass (2009).

Her debut album, Reverie (2022), which started as a personal creative project, is a curated collection of some of her own first work. The album is a family affair, featuring a heavy presence of back-up vocals sung by her sister, Morgan, and a humorous rap by her brother, Malcolm. Toeing the border between folk and pop, the album’s metaphoric lyric style, dynamic harmonies, subtle humor and sparse production is reminiscent of some of Jack’s work–his craft no doubt absorbed by osmosis from countless cross-country car rides, songwriting sessions and family meals.

After the album ended up garnering attention in the folk community, with over 17,000 streams on Spotify, Miranda decided she might want to take her music a little more seriously (but not too seriously).

In her sophomore album, titled The Price of Happiness, she dances at the intersection of tradition and invention, collaborating with emerging artist and producer Alex Crossland, as well as legacy folk sound engineer, producer and bass player Mark Dann. The album is an exploration of all the trade-offs and realities one faces in the quest for happiness, such as expectations vs. authenticity, wants vs. needs, shoulds vs. could.

She now runs a songwriter night in New York for artists to gather and perform their latest work.

THE PRICE OF HAPPINESS

They say money doesn't buy happiness,
but that doesn't mean we don't pay for it.
